The saga of Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom has passed in everyone else’s mind except for Lamar Odom. Despite the pair’s very public split and them both having moved on romantically, Odom is not shy about wishing he did better while with his ex-wife. Every chance he gets to speak on her, he does, most recently taking the Will Smith Oscar fiasco as an opportunity to express his undying love for her and the things he wishes he’d done differently and protected her more.
Lamar Odam was in a serious relationship with Taraji P. Henson when he met and fell in love with Khloe Kardashian. The NBA star would go on to leave Henson, with little to no explanation, and shack up with Khloe. They moved really quickly too, getting married in September 2009, only a month after meeting. Their love would last for several years and included a few Kardashian spin-offs like Khloe & Lamar. The series documented them as they purchased their first home together, got matching tattoos, and even tried to have babies. Rumors of cheating would soon follow the couple. Lamar had a very active life, and admitted in an interview to being with over 2000 women. Things would take a turn for the worst when the former NBA player was arrested on DUI charges in 2013.
Despite Lamar Odom’s failure to protect his wife from heartbreak and pain, Khloe Kardashian went to great heights to keep him protected even during their initial divorce. In 2013, Kardashian filed for divorce from Odom after years of infidelity and substance abuse. Rather than leaving Odom at his lowest point, Khloe decided to work things out after Odom was hospitalized after a wild time at a brothel in Nevada. After being by his side and helping him get back on his feet, Khloe filed for divorce again in 2016.
Lamar Odom has been on his own journey post-Khloe Kardashian. He’s done several stints on reality television, most recently Celebrity Big Brother. While there, he opened up to fellow cast member Todrick Hall about his feelings for his ex-wife and the dreams he still has about her. Lamar seems to be living with a lot of regrets and has been vocal about missing the Kardashian family.
During an interview earlier this year, Odom opened up about how the family no longer speaks to him. He admits that he made some bad decisions and behaved terribly while in the Kardashian Klan. He does hope that with time Khloe and her family can forgive him while for now he lives with his regrets.
One regret he recently went public with was the fact that he wishes he had protected Khloe more like Will Smith did for Jada Pinkett Smith at the Academy Awards. Odom took to social media to share his opinion on Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, saying, “I was told love covers a multitude of sins.” He defends Will’s right to protect his wife and says that the Smith family owes us no apology because Will did what a “husband is supposed to do.”
Lamar Odom goes on to express his regret for not doing the same while married, saying that he mentally, emotionally, and spiritually hurt Khloe during their union instead of uplifting and protecting her. He hopes that people use this situation as a catalyst to set boundaries, to be humble, and learn to forgive and embrace one another. Fans in the comments section did not understand the correlation and called him out for using someone else’s situation as a way to send a message to Khloe. “One thing about it, Lamar gone make something about him and Khloe😔 said one fan. Another chimed in, saying, “Lord, he wants Khloe back so bad.”
Back when the news broke about Tristan fathering a child outside of his relationship with Khloe, Lamar was once again one of the first to chime in and express his desire to protect his estranged ex. He called Tristan “corny” and revealed his desire to hug and reassure Khloe during this trying time. He called the reality star a “strong girl” and felt that she would be alright eventually.
