Traci Braxton’s loss continues to be felt by many who were fans of her. The hilarious reality star is survived by her four sisters, Toni, Tamar, Towanda, and Trina, as well as her mother Evelyn and husband and son Kevin Sr. and Kevin Jr. They’ve all taken to social media to pay their respects, with Evelyn making her second post today about their tragic loss. In it, she alludes to Traci believing she was going to beat cancer, something Kevin Jr. also referenced in his post.
In a beautiful collage that featured pictures from throughout Traci’s career, her mother Evelyn penned a heartfelt goodbye to her daughter, who was only 50 years old. According to Evelyn, she laid up countless nights with Traci as she fought for her life. Traci remained hopeful and told her mother that she believed she would pull through and hoped to be an example for others fighting through cancer. Traci believed healing wasn’t too far away, telling her mother healing was ‘just around the bend.’
Fans flooded her comments with well wishes saying, “Awwwww so beautifully said Ms.E 😢🙏🏾🙏🏾 praying God’s strength for you and your family ” Another said, “God be with all of you, Tracy was a ray of light I loved her on the show, I loved the woman she was, rest easy with the lord 😘❤️❤️🙏🏼🥰🙏🏼.” The Braxtons prayed over her as a family, and all rallied behind their sister to get better. “Thank you, Lord, for 50 years you have given me and my family and the world with Traci and allowing me to be her Mommy. It will always be an empty place in my heart that will never be fulfilled.”
Evelyn says that Traci did not complain for much of her ordeal and held on tight to her faith, and hoped that she could make it through her sickness. Evelyn recalls watching her lose weight and cry and fight but always maintaining her faith in God. “As days, weeks, and months passed, she held on to her determination that she could be an example for someone else that she could perhaps help them through this heinous disease!” Last year, fans began to become concern when images of Traci hit the internet, with the Braxton sister appearing very thin while attending son’s wedding. Despite the concerns and criticism, Traci nor the family never addressed the image or the weight loss.
Traci Braxton passed after a long battle with Esophageal cancer. It is one of the 6th most common causes of cancer deaths in the world, and it is more common in men than women. It can occur in any part of the esophagus and lead to extreme weight loss, difficulty breathing, chest pains, and coughing/hoarseness.
Traci’s page was updated over the weekend with an in memoriam image and a post from her manager. Like Evelyn, they noted Traci’s determination to be an example in the face of all the things people said she could not do. “When people said she wasn’t capable of doing an album, she did two, people said she wouldn’t do movies, she did everything she said she wanted to accomplish, and it wasn’t because of me but because of her.” Her various collaborators also shared their condolences which were reposted in her story. They reflected on the work they did together, including her album On Earth, which was released in 2018.
