Fans have grown with and love his character “Madea,” as she relates to many Black matriarchs within the families. Played by Tyler Perry himself, Madea has indeed propelled the entrepreneur into the stratosphere. However, while Madea is loved by many, Perry has also been the butt of many a joke. Joining the likes of those who have negative remarks to say about Perry is none other than Tokyo Toni.
Shalana Jones-Hunter, best known as “Tokyo Toni” and mother to model and socialite Blac Chyna, hopped on Instagram Live recently and had quite a lot to say. While the main focus appeared to address the recent trial between the Kardashian family and her daughter, many celebrities caught a few stray bullets, including Tyler Perry. The Tokyo Toni’s Finding Love ASAP! star discussed certain corrupt moves and actions prevalent in Hollywood and brought Perry into the fold. But the reality star couldn’t help but throw some unsolicited disrespectful commentary in the mix. “His big, sweet a**,” she uttered. However, Tokyo Toni didn’t stop there. She went on to say that “in real life,” Tyler Perry is actually Madea, inferring that his masculinity should be questioned.
However, if you had any doubts about whether or not she was questioning the A Madea Homecoming star’s sexuality, doubt no longer. “You got a wife or want some kids. Stop playing with yourself,” Tokyo Toni added. “You like men.”
Tyler Perry’s sexuality has been in question, seemingly ever since he appeared on stage as Madea. But the Academy Award-winner dated model Gelila Bekele from 2009 until 2020. The former couple also shares a son together named Aman Tyler Perry. Despite Tokyo Toni’s allegations, Tyler Perry has never been married. Tokyo Toni joins a long list of detractors who have criticized Perry’s choice to put on a dress and portray a woman. Another famous Tyler, Tyler the Creator, put Perry in the crossfire by way of a bar on The Game’s 2011 song, “Martians VS. Goblins.” In the song, the Grammy-winning rapper stated that singer Bruno Mars was participating in acts “In the same closet that Tyler Perry gets clothes from.”
Perry has addressed those who have had something to say in the past about his choices of wearing a dress. Speaking with rapper T.I. on his expediTIously Podcast, Tyler Perry explained that he made the decision to wear the feminine apparel for the character, and it is a choice that he owns. “Nobody owned that dress but me,” said the billionaire. He insisted that he’s merely “acting” while adding that he was not persuaded by anyone in Hollywood to wear a dress and that a “Black man owned the whole show.”
As for Tokyo Toni, fans may not be able to see a second season of her reality show on the Zeus network. However, it was recently announced that Tokyo Toni has her own network on Roku T.V. called the SHN Network. According to a conversation with TMZ, the reality star will include a talk show with Blac Chyna where they are to discuss gossip and “spill the tea.”
