Russell Wilson may be known as Mr. Ciara these days, but he started his football career well before meeting the “1,2 Step” hitmaker. Wilson began his NFL journey married to a different woman, Ashton Meem. Their marriage would only last two years, but the former Mrs. Wilson seems to feel a way about her ex and his new lady.
Russell Wilson and Ashton Meem are said to have met in their late teens. Meem recalls connecting with him at high school and again at a summer party a few months later. The pair would begin dating, and for a while, it was a long-distance arrangement due to them attending different colleges. Eventually, Ashton would transfer to be closer to her boyfriend. The pair would get engaged in August of 2010. Russell has opened up about the elaborate plans he put together to pop the question. “I had arranged for everyone in the lobby to be quiet,” he recalled.
They would eventually marry in 2012 but could not go on a honeymoon due to Wilson being in the middle of NFL training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Hey was selected to the Seattle Seahawks three months later and signed a four-year, $2.99 million contract. The couple ended up calling things off in 2014 and divorced shortly after. Russell released a statement saying, “I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding, and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter.”
Russell has since found his forever love in Ciara. The duo is married and raising their three children. When she got word of Russell and Ciara getting engaged, Ashton changed her Twitter profile picture to reflect her own engagement ring from Wilson. People noted immediately how petty it was. Ciara knows a thing or two about a petty ex. She shares a son with rapper Future, who has not been shy to show his true feelings towards Ciara moving on in songs and videos.
Ashton seemed to enjoy his content and was seen liking one of Future’s pictures from weeks ago. The photo has since been removed, but Meem definitely caught everyone’s attention, and they flooded Future’s comments acknowledging they saw her like. Russell Wilson and Ciara do a good job of not giving their exes the satisfaction. While they’ve addressed them once or twice, for the most part, the duo focuses on themselves and their kids. That has not stopped either Future or Ashton from making headlines.
Future recently alluded to having a current situation with Ciara in an unreleased song from last year. Ashton is still going viral for other reasons. A photo of her response to Russell Wilson getting drafted is brought up just about every year, with fans resurfacing it yet again. “In honor of the NFL Draft, may we never forget the night when Russell Wilson’s ex-wife thought she was set for life,” they said with the photo of her wide-mouthed expression.
Ciara never responded responded publicly to Ashton’s post or liking Future’s content on social media. The singer has continued to take the high road.
