The Kardashian-Jenner family is a highly influential and powerful family. The late Robert Kardashian and his then-wife, Kris, gave birth to four children who would grow up to take over the media cycles. Their names are now immortalized in most households around the world: Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Rob Jr. But that wasn’t the end of the family’s legacy. Two siblings were added to the clan from Kris Jenner’s second marriage to world-renowned athlete born Bruce Jenner (before transitioning to Caitlyn Jenner in April 2015). Their names are Kylie and Kendall Jenner. Now worldwide celebrities, it is evident who the most powerful piece on the chessboard is. Love it or hate it, “Queen” Kris Jenner definitely knows what she is doing.
Kardashian-Jenner Life Before The Fame
Before achieving the notoriety that the Kardashian-Jenner family now possesses, they were well aware of what fame looked like. Perhaps the Kardashian family got an enormous taste of being surrounded by paparazzi and reporters back in 1994 during the heavily publicized O. J. Simpson trial.
Growing up in California, it wasn’t hard for them to run in the circles they did. Kourtney went to college with Nicole Richie. Kim Kardashian married super producer Damon Thomas when she was just 19-years-old before eventually moving on to another relationship that would shift the trajectory of the whole family’s careers with R&B singer and actor Ray J. She also worked for singer and actress Brandy as her personal stylist and Paris Hilton as her personal assistant and stylist. In addition, Khloe Kardashian worked alongside Nicole Richie as her personal assistant.
The Rise Of The Kardashians
Many argue that the Kardashian-Jenner family is simply “famous for being famous.” But what is true is that a 2003 vacation shared with Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend, Ray J, at the time planted a seed for the family’s massive future. Kim Kardashian and Ray J made a personal tape that would eventually leak and be seen by the eyes of millions of viewers. What could have been profoundly embarrassing and shameful, instead, started the family’s engines. In 2007, a meeting between Kris Jenner and Ryan Seacrest developed into what would swiftly become one of the longest-running reality shows in American history, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The series debuted in October 2007 and lasted for 20 seasons on the E! Network. Many other successful spin-offs from the franchise also came about, including Life of Kylie, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, and Rob and Chyna. The success of living their lives very publicly helped the family’s individual business ventures to all see an incredible level of accomplishments. All of the women in the family have amassed countless followers who are incredibly loyal to their businesses. Examples of their many enterprises include Kylie Jenner’s “Kylie Cosmetics,” Khloe Kardashian’s “Good American,” and Kim Kardashian’s shapewear company, “SKIMS.” The Kardashians also boast a bevy of endorsement deals.
Kris Jenner Trademark The Term Momager
Besides being the family’s matriarch, Kris Jenner serves as her children’s manager. Prior to this, she was her ex-husband’s manager. Immediately after the infamous leaked tape, Kris Jenner placed the “momager” hat on and took over her career. The reality star and businesswoman gave some insight to The Wall Street Journal about what pushes her to be a great manager during their “The One” series. According to Kris Jenner, she performs “over and above anything that would be required of you” because her clients are her children. In addition, she sees it as an “advantage” to completely dedicate her life to serving in this capacity for her children.
From the family’s reality show, which now lives on streaming platform Hulul as The Kardashians, to other areas of their lives, Kris Jenner can ultimately be seen as “queen momager.” So much so that in 2015, Kris Jenner reportedly attempted to trademark the term momager, claiming that she was the first to coin the phrase. However, it is unknown whether she was successful in this endeavor.
But one thing’s for sure, Kris Jenner won’t be stopped. The 66-year-old seems to always be ahead of the game. In her memoir, Kris Jenner…And All Things Kardashian, released in 2011, she wrote that she viewed their careers like “pieces on a chessboard.” According to Vice, Kris Jenner penned that she admittedly took a highly “calculated” approach. “My business decisions and strategies were very intentional, definite, and planned to the nth degree,” she wrote. In another excerpt from More Magazine in 2011, Kris stated, “My job is to take my family’s 15 minutes of fame and turn it into 30,” according to Bossip.
