Actor J. Alphonse Nicholson has had it up to here regarding the criticism of his character LaMarques, best known as “Lil Murda,” on STARZ’s P-Valley. The critically acclaimed show has opened many doors for Nicholson and exposed him to a brand new audience. But while the show continues to garner immense love and support from fans, not everyone has been as welcoming. Rapper Plies is the latest celebrity to call out the shows story line.
🤣🤣🤣 I’m Really Traumatized!!!!🤣🤣 Man Why Y’all Ain’t Give Me A Tutorial On “P Valley” (Show)…🤣🤣🤣 I Heard The Show Doing Well So Congrats To Everyone Involved!!!✊🏾 But Damn I Wasn’t Ready For All Dat!!🤣🤣 #Plies #Pearly🦷 pic.twitter.com/SyUqEY3l3j— Plies (@plies) August 17, 2022
Some people have given the show a chance due to its nature and content. Those who may not have been active viewers of P-Valley have heard that it’s about adult dancers attempting to journey through life’s trials and tribulations. However, many of these viewers were unaware that some characters would be a part of the LGBT+ community. Not only that, but many of the intimate scenes would feature the characters engaged in steamy situations.
For this reason, P-Valley has faced scrutiny and criticism from many viewers. Scenes that show Lil Murda and Big Teak or Lil Murda and Uncle Clifford being intimate have been pretty shocking for some, including rapper Plies. Plies took to his social media to share that he was “traumatized” after watching an episode of P-Valley. In addition, the “Bust It Baby (Part 2)” rapper shared his wishes to receive a “tutorial” before turning the series on. Like many others, Plies explained that he began to watch the show because it was about the strip club. And since he is an active attendee at various clubs, the rapper was more inclined to watch P-Valley.
Plies recalled watching the Lil Murda character performing his crowd-pleasing new song on the season finale as Mercedes gave a showstopping performance on the pole. However, upon returning from a trip to the bathroom, the rapper would experience the scene where Lil Murda was engaged in bedroom activities with Uncle Clifford, whom he referred to as “300 lbs of pressure.”
Plies continued to give a recap of the whole episode, which he once again claimed “traumatized” him. And although he claims that he would not watch any more of the series due to it being “too much,” the rapper wished the cast, crew, and creator of the show nothing but success.
Catching wind of all of the backlash along with Plies’s viral video, actor J. Alphonse Nicholson chose to address the noise. The actor interviewed with XoNecole on Instagram Live, where he shared that he is grateful for those that have been “touched” by the intimate moments that occurred on the show. However, he challenged those like Plies, who offered negative takes on the show.
J. Alphonse Nicholson questions whether Plies may be dealing with some inner confusion about his sexuality. “It’s interesting because he knew every character’s name [and] knew exactly what they said,” the actor said. Additionally, he noted that Plies may harbor some fear within him as he may not have “accepted” who he is or for those that may be around him that are perhaps homosexual. J. Alphonse Nicholson shared that he’s grateful for even the “ignorance” that has abounded from the nature of the show. He said that it opens the door for more positive discussion and can perhaps open the minds and hearts of all those who watch.
