While the world was dream casting him as James Bond, in real life, Idris Elba is a regular man. Despite playing quick-witted shooters on screen, he confesses to nearly losing his life recently while trying to protect a lady from her angry boyfriend. The story left the “Luther” star terrified.
Idris Elba is a lady’s man and was simply trying to protect a beautiful woman when the incident happened. “I nearly lost my f***ing life, after attempting to stop a man threatening his girlfriend outside a club,” he said in a recent interview. Elba was simply trying to calm the man down asking him, “Look how beautiful she is.
Why would you talk to this beautiful princess like that?” The enraged man immediately pulled out a gun and held it to Elba’s head saying, “You talking about my girl?” Elba quickly realized the error in his ways and understood immediately that the man thought he was trying to bag his girl instead of defending her.
“He thought I was trying to hit on her. I remember thinking, ‘Don’t play negotiations like that… Consequences, man,'” Elba recalls. The actor probably still felt in character, as he’s currently playing Sam Nelson in Apple TV+’s Hijack.
In the series, Elba plays a regular turned crime fighter on a flight from Dubai to London. He’s got seven hours to fight off hijackers who take over the flight. The show is becoming a sleeper hit of the summer as it heads towards its conclusion in the coming weeks.

Elba, like the rest of Hollywood, is currently on strike and fighting for equality for actors. His last social media post was one of him expressing his support for fellow actors and he has not been doing much promoting off the show. Elba is also a successful DJ, but he’ll probably think twice before trying to break up another fight in the club.
