Fans Are Taking Kanye West’s “Cancellation” In Their Own Hands

It seems as though more and more people are growing tired of Kanye West and his antics. Ye has been on one as of late as he has been airing out all of his personal business. Along with doing so, the rapper and businessman has been vocal about his disapproval of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s new relationship with Pete Davidson. All of Ye’s latest erratic behaviors have propelled fans to, once again, attempt to get the rapper canceled.

Ye can’t seem to get along with many prominent figures at the moment. Recently, he’s taken to Instagram to target not only Kim Kardashian and SNL comedian Pete Davidson, but Original Kings Of Comedy star DL Hughley, comedian/television personality Trevor Noah, and singer Billie Eilish. The consistent harassment from the “Eazy” rapper prompted Instagram to do what Twitter decided to ultimately do with the former President of the United States. However, it would only last for 24 hours.

A representative from Meta confirmed in a statement that their decision to suspend Kanye West’s account was due to “violating policies” as reported by NBC News. In addition, they stated that further steps would be taken if the “Jesus Walks” rapper persisted in violating the community guidelines of Instagram.

Upon learning the news of Instagram’s verdict, some fans expressed gratitude on social media. One user commented under a post from The Shade Room that they “saw this coming.” Another wrote, “Ohhh we get a break,” while one more fan stated that “They shoulda been took his [poop emoji].”

But while that was a small victory in some social media users’ eyes that have been subjected to Kanye Wests’s antagonizing, some fans feel as though that was not enough. In fact, many fans feel as though the ban should have perhaps been an indefinite one. As a result, some fans took to social media to express what they felt was a lenient decision on Instagram’s part.

“24 hours is not enough,” wrote a fan. Another fan expressed, “It wouldn’t bother us if Instagram would just go ahead and push that to a 90-day hold. And pending review that can be extended if necessary. Let’s hope for that.” Echoing that fan’s sentiments, another fan shared their desires to “request for an extension.”

This is not the first time that fans have been over Kanye West. There have been many cases where fans have called for or attempted to cancel the G.O.O.D. Music CEO. Ye and Taylor Swift famously beefed for many years. Still, things escalated a step further when he was seemingly caught in a lie around his 2016 hit song, “Famous.”

Kanye West made previous claims that he had the approval of the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer before releasing the single. However, Taylor Swift denied his claims. Kim Kardashian would later release a video that would seemingly absolve the rapper and prove his statements valid. However, Swift refuted the claims by releasing the full 25-minute version of their conversation in 2020 that appeared to prove Kanye West failed to forewarn her of the controversial line, “I made that [girl] famous.”

Very soon, fans flocked to social media to make the hashtags “Kanye West Is Over Party” and “Taylor Told The Truth” trend. Other instances that would further exacerbate fans wanting the rapper canceled include his infamous statement that Harriet Tubman “never freed the slaves.”

With all that Kanye West has said over the years, it would appear that he is “uncancellable.” Writer Clay Cane took to Twitter to express his thoughts that no matter what celebrities like Kanye West do, the attempts of cancel culture may never affect him. “Kanye West is another example that cancel culture doesn’t exist for the wealthy.,” he wrote. “You can disrespect Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, and Black History – you can support a white supremacist and insult the community that made you a star… and still end up a billionaire.”

Be that as it may, that’s not stopping fan attempts to get Kanye West canceled. A recent petition surfaced on Change.org that someone named Caramello Marie started to have West pulled from the upcoming Coachella festival. The petition’s description speaks on the harassment that the rapper has been doing and states that “Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform.” Currently, nearly 30,000 people have signed.

Meanwhile, there is the fear that Ye’s current partnership with GAP may be threatened due to his drama. Some fans took to the brand’s Instagram to voice their opinion that he should be dropped, while other fans came to share their support. However, it could be unlikely that GAP drops Kanye West as he’s been a huge moneymaker for the brand. Furthermore, the last time that the rapper threatened to cease his business dealings with GAP proved to be bad for business for the brand, with Forbes reporting a decline in their shares at the time.

It’s also worth noting, Kanye West’s Grammy performance invitation was revoked following rapper’s exchange with this year’s host Trevor Noah. Although, Grammy’s have declined the offer, Trevor Noah claims he wants the rapper counseled, not canceled. No word if that will be enough to change the mind of the recording academy.
