Dr. Dre’s Parents Were 16 and 17 When They Had Him
Dr. Dre was born Andre Romelle Young in Compton, California, on February 18th, 1965. His parents are Theodore Young and Verna Young. According to Dre’s grandmother, Theodore and Verna were only teenagers when they had him, and many were concerned for the teens. Verna admits that her mother suggested she end her pregnancy. Dr. Dre is aware of his grandmother and others suggesting his mother abort him, and says that much of his life’s motivation has been the hopes of proving those people wrong. His parents would marry in 1964 but separated in 1968. Their divorce was not finalized till 1972. His mother would later remarry to a man named Curtis Crayon and have three more children.
Dr. Dre Has Loss Two Brothers
Verna and Curtis would welcome three siblings for a young Dr. Dre, with two of them passing away. Jerome Crayon would die an infant, having suffered from pneumonia. His other brother, Tyree Du Sean Crayon, would pass away years later. Tyree was very protective of Dr. Dre and was becoming a source of peace in his community, which was riddled with violence. While trying to break up a street brawl on Slauson Ave in Compton, his life was taken on June 25th, 1989. He was only 21. The case was never solved. He also has a sister named Shameka.
Dr. Dre Lost His Son, Andre Young Jr., In 2008
Dr. Dre has several kids. Like his parents, he became a teenage father at 16 years old. His first child’s name is Curtis, and he was raised by his mother, Cassandra Joy Greene. Curtis and Dre would not meet for 20 years. In 1983 he welcomed his first daughter, La Tanya Danielle Young, with Lisa Johnson. LaToya and Ashley would follow in 1984 and 1985. Dre dated singer Michel’le from 1987 to 1996. They have a son together named Marcel. He then got with Nicole Threatt and had two children with her, Truice and Truly.
His son Andre Young Jr. was born in 1988 to him and Jenita Porter. The pair would eventually split, and Jenita would sue Dre, seeking $5000 a month in child support. Unfortunately, Andre Young Jr. battle with substance abuse. The young man struggled breaking his bad habit and passed away at the age of 20 in his mother’s Woodland Hills home.

Dre’s kids have all gone on to varying degrees of success. His eldest son Curtis Young has gone on to become a rapper. His Instagram bio says, “Lyricist, artist, executive producer, actor, founder. As seen on TMZ, Complex, HipHop DX, MSN and more.” He’s never found the same mainstream success as his father. Marcel Young, his son with Michel’le, largely stayed out of the spotlight. He would eventually forge a relationship with his father after years of being estranged. Marcel reportedly worked on the set of Straight Outta Compton and his mother’s Lifetime movie.
Daughter Truly Young is a socialite and model with over 100k followers. She frequently posts pictures of her modeling outfits and make-up. Her brother Tuice is a bit of the same, with his IG being mostly editorial-level photos of him on vacation, in the studio, or showing off his abs. He has also posted some music as well and is a producer.
Despite, Truly and Tuice living the life, Dre’s first daughter, La Tanya, has been very vocal about her father’s lack of support and how she was facing homelessness. In a post from last August, she admitted that she had fallen on hard times and was living out of her car. While she has been working for UberEats and DoorDash, she says her father had not assisted her in over a year and a half. La Tanya is a single mother of four and left her kids with a friend while she struggled to figure out how to make ends meet, launching a GoFund Me to get assistance from the public. La Tanya said at the time that Dre had not spoken to her in over 18 years and that she could only communicate with him through his team. She admitted that she was on his bad side after speaking to some news outlets. “His lawyer has said that my dad doesn’t want to help me because I’ve spoken about him in the press,” she explained, adding, “I feel like I’m damned if I do, I’m damned if I don’t.”

Dre’s father walked out on him and his mother when he was really young, and they have never really had a relationship. Theodore Young says he has not spoken to Dre since the death of his grandfather, and believes that his mother and grandmother painted him out to be a bad guy. “We have no relationship. My other sons love me. They tell me they love me. But coming from where I come from, most young men like Andre who have a big success don’t give a damn about their dad.”
