The divorce saga between Stevie J and Faith Evans continues, and it’s getting uglier. Reports state that producer and reality star Stevie J has requested that Evans cough up “manimony” payments. What is manimony, you ask? It’s a nickname that has been given to situations where men receive alimony payments from women. So could Faith Evans’s third marriage end with her having to pay monthly spousal support payments to Stevie J?
Court documents obtained by The Blast reveal that after three years of marriage, the couple separated on Oct. 19, 2021. “Irreconcilable differences” were cited as the reason for the marriage’s imminent ending. But, seemingly stepping into his petty bag, the documents also show the Growing Up Hip Hop star’s request for spousal support while also asking that the “You Used To Love Me” singer be responsible for covering their attorney’s fees.
While there is no public knowledge at the time of the former Jordan’s having a prenup in place before marriage, if a judge grants Stevie J his request, he joins the list of other men whose celebrity wives have had to pay spousal support. Women from Madonna to Mary J. Blige have been subjected to paying alimony or spousal support ever since the Supreme Court changed the rules and made things equal in 1979.
Legendary singer Madonna has perhaps had the most legendary divorce payout. In 2000, Madonna married her then-husband, British filmmaker Guy Ritchie in a lavish wedding at the Skibo Castle in Scotland. But after seven and a half years of marriage and two children together, Madonna filed for a divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.” When news of their divorce hit the media, representatives for the former couple released a statement saying that “A final settlement [had] not been agreed upon yet.”
However, while a judge granted the couple a quickie divorce, a hefty settlement was reportedly agreed upon. The “Like a Prayer” singer maybe should have leaned on those appeals harder because she was eventually ordered to pay Ritchie up to $92 million. The whopping figure reportedly included their $30 million estate near Salisbury, Wiltshire in England, according to her representatives at the time.
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is also another woman paying spousal support to her ex-husband. A bitter child support battle with Gabriel Aubry would ensue for years, causing a significant strain on the Monster’s Ball actress. A report from The Blast shows that Berry agreed to a monthly payout of $16,000 in support payments. However, In the spring of 2021, the amount would be chopped in half. Halle Berry is also in charge of paying for their daughter’s health insurance bills and school tuition. As well, if the actress’s income exceeds another $1.95 million at any point in a given year, she will have to fork over additional support to Aubry.
The legal battle and its ruling were enough to leave the actress frustrated and social media was shown this once she posted the meme that “Women don’t owe you s**t.” In a since-deleted response to a fan in the comment section, Berry expressed her true feelings about the child support and alimony payments she had to make to Aubry, saying that it took “great strength every day to pay it. And btw it’s wrong, and it’s extortion.”
“That’s The Way Love Goes” singer Janet Jackson is also in that number. Unfortunately, things went very downhill following her very private and secret marriage to Rene Elizondo Jr. as the iconic singer’s estranged husband sued her for millions of dollars in spousal support. Entertainer Britney Spears also has to cough up spousal support to her ex-husband Kevin Federline. After their very public divorce battle, which was finalized in 2007, Kevin Federline reportedly received over $1 million and was awarded $20k in monthly child support payments.
“Good Morning Gorgeous” singer Mary J. Blige was ordered by a judge to pay ex-husband Kendu Isaacs monthly payments of $30k in temporary child support. This amount was down from the whopping $130k per month he originally requested following their divorce battle. Singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is also charged by a judge to pay an enormous amount to her ex-husband, worth $150k a month in spousal support. This is on top of the $45k that she must pay in child support as well.
