Actor Taye Diggs isn’t new to this love thing. In his 51 years on earth, he’s loved and lost already. In 2003, after many years of dating, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel became husband and wife. Then in 2009, the Brown Sugar star became a father when their son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, arrived into the world. But years and years of dating and a decade of marriage later, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel called it quits. After the divorce was finalized in 2014, the Frozen actress began dating and eventually married actor Aaron Lohr, whom she met while filming the film adaptation of Rent in 2005.
Taye Diggs then began to date Selling Sunset star Amanza Smith Brown who was mix (Nigerian-American-Asian-German-English-Irish). According to a report from MEAWW, the two are rumored to have started dating in 2014, the same year Diggs’s divorce from his former wife was finalized. Their relationship began to arrest headlines as they appeared on numerous red carpets together.
But ultimately, things didn’t work out for them either. Reports state that Taye Diggs and Amanza Smith Brown ended their relationship in 2018. Then, the reality star appeared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat Podcast and explained the reason for their split. According to Smith Brown, neither of them was in a space to date, and she believed they were more compatible as friends, although they remained a couple for many years. In addition, she confirmed she was the first person Taye Diggs dated after his marriage ended, contributing to their demise. “If you’re the first person someone has fresh out of a divorce, [the relationship is] probably never going to work,” said Amanza Smith Brown.
While Taye Diggs was living his life and dating the women of his choosing, many of his loyal female fanbase didn’t seem to approve that he hadn’t publicly dated a Black woman. Taye Diggs shared on the podcast that fans still approach him to question if he “only likes white girls.” He also admitted to feeling “resentment” toward Black women as he felt “offended” for a while. “I don’t know if I can ever mess with a white girl now,” Diggs stated. The actor went on to say he doesn’t like the idea of not being able to date who he wants without being criticized. “I don’t like that. That goes against who I am as a person. I feel like I’ve had deal with that so long it has changed what I think I like, what I’m attracted to.” But that all seemed to change now that Taye Diggs openly confessed his love for reality star and socialite Apryl Jones. The two have been quite the social media personalities since debuting together in December, setting off speculations they were dating.
Now, it appears that everything can be put to rest. Taye Diggs shared a video to his Instagram followers, thanking God for his many blessings, one of them being Apryl Jones. As she stands there and giggles, the actor praises her and thanks God that she’s “in love with [him.].” Taye Diggs shares that Apyrl Jones is the reason that “God, Buddha, or the Universe” is smiling on him.
