Naomi Osaka is prepping to become a mother. The tennis champion has been dating American rapper Cordae since 2019, an the pair appear to be more serious than ever as they step into parenthood. The successful couple dropped the good news on their fans earlier today, and Naomi revealed what this means for her and the upcoming Australian Open.
Naomi and Cordae’s love story has played out beautifully over the last couple of years. The promising young stars began to stoke relationship rumors in 2019 when they began popping up on each other’s I.G. accounts with flirty exchanges and shared posts. Cordae admits to not knowing who Naomi was at the time he courted her, asking for her number. They kept things pretty quiet for the first year as they got to know each other.
Cordae was front and center at the 2019 U.S. Open to cheer his girl on. At the time, it was the couple’s first public outing. Cordae joked about feeling out of place at the tournament but was really happy to cheer his girl on from the crowd. He admitted to G.Q. Magazine that it was a culture shock. “My elementary school, middle school, high school was 99.9 percent Black. Kids who look like me. It just felt really weird for me being in that space. That was my first tennis match ever.”
While talking about Naomi with Hot 97 in 2019, Cordae confirmed that he and Naomi were moving towards being official. “Yeah, that’s my girl,” he said, blushing. He revealed that they had met at a Los Angeles Clippers game the year prior. They commemorated their one-year anniversary with a date to the then Staples Center, where they initially met.
Cordae showed out for his lady again at the 2020 U.S. Open. While the game has a smaller crowd due to COVID, Naomi asked Cordae to come since her father could not attend due to travel restrictions. He gladly stepped in and cheered her on. Naomi said this really helped her stay calm because, at the time, she was dealing with some depression stemming from all the shutdowns going on. “And he flew out, even though he was really busy. I really appreciated that.”
These days the pair keep their social media accounts pretty professional. Cordae has only a handful of pictures, while Naomi’s 300+ posts have been dedicated to Tennis and her recent children’s book. So fans were shocked by her latest post, a sonogram image.
“Can’t wait to get back on the court, but here’s a little life update for 2023,” she said in the caption. The slide show featured a lengthier explanation of her life over the last few weeks in both English and Japanese. “The past few years have been interesting, to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun,” she said. She goes on to say, “I’m looking forward to my kid to watching one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’ haha.”
Cordae has yet to share the news on his page, but the couple is undoubtably happy for this next chapter. Congrats to them.
